It was delicious, homely, and filled with traditional singing.
On Sunday, March 2, a real Maslenitsa evening took place at the Ukrainian Library, which operates at the INTEURO Center for the Integration of Foreigners in Kielce!
So to speak, from theory to practice 🙂
First, we listened to an interesting story by Nataliia Volkovska about the tradition of celebrating Zapusty or Kolodiya in Ukraine. We discussed regional differences and the origins of the holiday. Moreover, Nataliia took us on a journey not only through the history of this celebration in Ukraine but also in other European countries. After all, our Zapusty is just like the European carnival!
And, of course, how could we do without the kolodka? The women crafted their own kolodky, decorated them, and celebrated their birth, christening, and everything else in one day 🙂
And how could we celebrate without a feast? Varenyky and nalysnyky became the real stars of today's table – just as they should!
Naturally, Ukrainian folk songs accompanied our celebration – because how could it be otherwise?
The only thing missing was making Marenа and burning her in the fire so that all our troubles, worries, and all the evil that has come our way would burn away with her – cleansing us for the future.
As you can guess, the atmosphere was simply extraordinary – warm and heartfelt. A huge thank you to everyone who attended, and especially to Nataliia, who prepared all of this! 💥🤍🫶
And for those who didn’t make it – we look forward to seeing you at our next events!
