Free studies for foreigners

Tuition fees for full-time studies in Polish are not paid by foreigners:

  • citizens of a Member State of the European Union, the Swiss Confederation, Norway or Iceland (member states of the European Free Trade Association - EFTA) - parties to the agreement on the European Economic Area and their family members residing in the territory of the Republic of Poland;
  • holders of a valid Pole's Card or people who were issued with a decision confirming Polish origin;
  • who have been granted a permanent residence permit (with a permanent residence card);
  • holders of a long-term resident's European Union residence permit (Article 186 (1) (3) of the Act on foreigners - this specific provision must be indicated on the decision on granting the permit);
  • who have been granted a temporary residence permit for the purpose of family reunification (Article 159 (1) of the Act on foreigners - this specific provision must be indicated on the decision granting the permit)
  • holding the refugee status granted in the Republic of Poland or enjoying temporary protection or subsidiary protection on the territory of the Republic of Poland (holders of a residence card with the annotation "refugee" or a decision on granting it);
  • holders of a certificate confirming the knowledge of Polish as a foreign language, at least at the C1 language proficiency level. The only authorizing document is a certificate issued by the State Commission for the Certification of Proficiency in Polish as a Foreign Language;
  • being a spouse, ascendant or descendant (child, grandson) of a citizen of the Republic of Poland, living in the territory of Poland;
  • who have been granted a temporary residence permit for the purpose of conducting scientific research (Article 151 (1) of the Act of 12 December 2013 on foreigners - this specific provision must be indicated on the permit granting decision);
  • who have been granted a temporary residence permit for the purpose of long-term mobility of a researcher (Article 151b (1) of the Act of 12 December 2013 on foreigners - this specific provision must be indicated on the permit granting decision);
  • staying on the territory of the Republic of Poland in connection with the use of the short-term mobility of the researcher under the conditions specified in art. 156b paragraph. 1 of the Act of 12 December 2013 on foreigners - this specific provision must be indicated on the decision to grant the permit;
  • holders of a national visa for the purpose of research or development work.

NAWA Scholarship

A foreigner may be exempt from fees if he has obtained a scholarship under one of the programs the Polish National Agency for Academic Exchange (NAWA) programs.

Candidates who receive a scholarship under one of the programs of the National Agency for Academic Exchange (NAWA) are exempt from tuition fees on the terms set out in the decision of the minister or director of NAWA.
